Sketches

Early sketches. I knew I wanted to do something yoga-related, but not too literal. I thought about ways to engage with the frame, as an idea of something limiting or fixed. (The Art Center provided us with 8" x 8" wood frames in which to situate our works. The Crow and Child's Pose sketches were cribbed from Anatomy of Hatha Yoga by H. David Coulter. An excellent book!  I learned to do Crow and Headstand with Leighton.

My first memory of Leighton was meeting him at Carrier Library's front doors.  He brought a small notebook with him and often sketched little to-do lists and plans.  I decided to do the same for this project and opted for block printing in his honor. He didn't use a pink Chococat notebook but he always affirmed others' differences as well as his own individual choices.

Cardstock models, instructions for cutting, and diagrams for assembly.
